..:: Kapa Haka ::..

On Friday 30th of August, it was the Kapa Haka Festival. The Kapa Haka Festival is when different schools, Kohangas and Intermediates go to Horowhenua College's hall to show off their waiatas in front of many different people.
One Friday at 8.30 everybody in the Levin North School Kapa Haka group met in Room 15. We waited for Matua Tipi and for more people to arrive to transport us. When Matua Tipi arrived everyone got ready to go. My Mum was transporting so we took Miya, Jane and Dahria.

When we got to the Coillege, there was a very long line. We had to put our bags in Matua Tipi's van. Mana and I were claiming spots and being idiots , Mana said that my Mum is her Mum!.
As we started moving someone was calling a karanga to welcome us and we found a little spot and just listened to the people talking in Maori.

Our little spot was very cramped up, because everyone had to move forward towards the stage. Mana and I had to sit in an uncomfortable position.

A Kohanga started off the show ,they were so cute and little. When they started dancing, my little cousin Devon started randomly dancing, it was very funny! .The audience laughed!.

When they had finished and the audience stopped clapping, a guy name Matt came on as our host. He was from Tonga and he was wearing a lava lava.

After morning tea came my favourite act was by Fairfield, their Haka was the best they actually tried to look tough.

Then it was time for us to perform. We waited behind the big red curtain ,everyone was scared and nervous. When it opened everyone was smiling. When we sang Tenei Kai Eke the crowd was yelling out and clapping. When we did E Noho Ra E the crowd was asking each other is this Blurred Lines.

When we finished and walked off the stage everyone was so happy and I saw my Mum and Dad, they wanted a photo of Mana and I. I was smiling all the way. When we got back to the whare we had got dressed and sang a karakia and left the whare for other schools to get dressed.

When we left the whare I had to go early because I had to get ready to go to Murupara, so I said goodbye to Matua Tipi and left with my Mum.

Mereana

Mathex MMTA

On August the 9th Mark , Ethan, Mereana and Kaitlin competed at Mathex. We had to come to school really early. Then we had to get changed . it took Ethan minutes just to get his shirt on and Ethan came to school l eariler than me.

The day was funny because it was my big brother Cyles birthday

After getting changed we had to go on a long long boring trip to Palmerston North.

I was bored and Ethan was extremely bored. When I got their then I found out I was a runner, this meant I had to run to the judges with our answers. I worried I had to run a long way so I tried tricking Kaitlin into doing it.

When we got to the room I found I only had to run a few steps to show the judge our answers. We had to wait about 1 whole long long long hour before starting i was hungry and I really had to pee .

We did quite good then we rocked the house and came 10th equal. This was fantastic because all the people from the Year 5 mathex team were from Room 10.
